You can say a lot of things about the Film Pigs, but you can never say we’re consistent or on time with anything. Thanks to Falk having a functioning career, Todd and Skelton are left to their own devices and deliver a Bacon episode discussing the movies they’ve actually gone to theaters to see this year. Note: this episode was recorded before the release of ENDER’S GAME, which got this review from Todd: “I had low expectations, but it was way better than I thought it would be.”
This time, on a very special episode of The Film Pigs Podcast:
- 0:00:00 – Intro
- 0:02:15 – The Bacon: Movies We’ve Seen In 2013
- 0:44:53 – Outro
I don’t want to raise your expectations too high, but WHITE HOUSE DOWN is infinitely superior to OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN because it doesn’t take itself seriously and is completely ridiculous and over the top. It’s THE CORE of White House under siege movies if you will, and ripe for a pigs commentary.
I believe Todd now has copies of both movies, so I imagine a compare-and-contrast is in order. And if they disappoint we can always put on Air Force One.
Have to say Todd and I had the opposite reaction to the movies. Watched them both back-to-back and we liked OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN much more than WHITE HOUSE DOWN. Most of it had to do with pacing (far fewer lengthy dead spots in OHF) and chemistry between the leads (somehow Butler and Eckhart beat Tatum and Foxx). Also, OHF was chock full of hilariously bad CG blood spurts.
Oh that’s too bad, I loved ‘The World’s End.’ I’d go so far as to say it’s one of my favourite films of last year. But I can’t argue with you too much; ‘Shaun of the Dead’ is at the bottom of my list of the three, so we obviously have our differences.
At least we can all agree that Hot Fuzz is in the middle.
