Pain Don’t Hurt

R.I.P. Patrick Swayze:

Patrick Swayze, whose good looks and sympathetic performances in films such as “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost” made him a romantic idol to millions, died Monday. He was 57.

Swayze died of pancreatic cancer, his publicist, Annett Wolf, told CNN. (via CNN)

Farewell to more 80s awesomeness. If you’ve never seen the non edited-for-television version of Road House, you haven’t lived.

A few people asked why I didn’t rant about Eli Roth’s performance in the new Tarantino picture.  I’d love to tell you that I wanted to focus all blame on the director, given that it was his self-indulgent casting choice that led to this serious blight on his own movie.  Unfortunately, that is only true in retrospect.  The truth is, I found the movie so mind-numbingly stuffed to the gills with self-indulgence on Q.T.’s part, that by the time I got out to the car I barely remembered Brad Pitt was in it, let alone anyone else. MICRO REVIEW: Halloween II and The Final Destination

Went to a double-feature with Todd and Hil and our friend Shereen. Sorry, no vlog, but here are the Cliffs Notes:

Halloween II (IMDb)

  • Rob Zombie assembles a perfectly acceptable corporate slasher picture, but he is hardly a visionary filmmaker. Any movie that starts with a text card explaining the symbollic imagery the director is going to use during the picture is a sign that the director has failed to properly use symbollic imagery.
